Local History Week
28th May – 1st June
May is Local History Month and all across the country people
are celebrating their heritage and the history of their localities.
At Keresley Grange we will be focusing on the life of Lady
Godiva. Over the course of the week each
class will have the opportunity to take part in exciting activities linked to
the skills needed to become an active historian.
Please look at our blog to view the updates on what we have
been learning over the course of the week!

The year 5s went to the NEC to go the big bang fair. The first thing we went to was the brainiac live show. There were loads of explosions, bangs, and it was really exciting because all the investigations were real and quite daring the queue was so long, but it was worth it! After that we went to this thing called in the zone and it was really good because it told you your fitness rate and at the end it gave you this card which you put in on the website and you get to see your videos of what you did.
After that we had a look around the place and looked at some stalls and went on the Land Rover Experience it was a stunt hill (made out of metal) and when you went up the hill the man driving stopped and it was slowly falling down. Then we had one more look around and then it was time to go back to school. We had a great day and we would recommend it to any other school .

On Thursday the 15 of March year 5 went on a trip to the NEC for the big bang show.
First we watched Brainiac live. There were lots of bangs and explosions. We can remember that he blew up 3 balloons, the first one was labelled as H and the second one was labelled as N then final one was labelled O. Then after the Brainiac show we had a look around the science fair. One of the groups went on a Land Rover ride they went over lots of hills and at one point 2 of the wheels were off the floor.
Then one of the groups went in an igloo like shape where you did jumping, running and even seeing the veins on both of your hands with a mixture of lots of other activities inside. Another group won a fluffy ball by making a paper airplane and seeing how far it would fly. Then another group went on a spinning smartie board and you had to concentrate on a green dot and then eventually you fell off. That is our report on the Big Bang Fair

A couple of months ago my cuison Linze had a baby boy called Charlie. We went to the hospital to go and visit him and Linze. He is now four months. When I first carried him he was really light. Then two weeks later when I carried him again was a bit heavier than last time.

On January 31st 2012 all year 5s did a knotty trail. We had to do a teamwork for this activty. What we had to do was get into a group of 3 then join up with another group then we got a piece of string off the teacher then we could not let go of the string otherwise you had to start again. Then we had to get it into a knot so the teacher cannot untie. Its so much fun.

Monday 30th January we came to school in non-unifom and we did lots of activities. My favorite was the blind trail. We had to get into 3′s and one will be blind and the others will guide that pearson. I think it was really good and very challenging. 95% of children think it was very good too, the other 5% of the children didn’t like it that much. One of the children said ”i didn’t like it because you can bump into things and it will hurt yourself.”
It was so fun!x

On Monday 30th all of green unit (The year fives) went on the adventure playground. There was string tied all around the adventure playground and we had to follow with our eyes open at first, but then we all got put in groups of three – there was two girls and one boy. When we were in our groups we would get put by a piece of string and the first person would follow the string with their eyes closed and the other two would have to direct the person with their eyes closed. I thought it was so much fun! I loved it!

Monday 30th January
On Monday 30th January, the year 6’s, at Keresley Grange Primary School, left to go on a one week journey to Dol-y-moch. As they left a t 9:10 the year 5’s went down to assembly with the rest of the school. Once assembly had finished the year 5’s, the rest of green unit, went into Mr. Broadbent’s classroom and we were spit up into 2 groups: group 1( green 1 year 5’s and half of green 2) and group 2( green 3 year 5’s and the other half of green 2). After that, group 1 were told to stay in Mr Broadbent’s classroom and group 2 were told to go into Mrs Jephcott’s class room. Once we sorted that out, group 1(me) were told to find a partner and sit by them. Finding a partner, we all managed to sort out who it was going to be. My partner was Morgan. Orienteering map symbols were placed in front of us and we were told to match them together (of course we had no idea what they actually were). After having about 10 minutes or so to do this, my partner and I were finished just as the teacher stopped us. Our teacher then enounced out what the symbols meant, me and my partner got most of them wrong. Once that had finished, it was break time. After break, we went back up to the hall and played a game where you lay the map symbols on the floor and you match together by running from one end to the other trying to find the matching pair. After this, a ripped up piece of newspaper was placed in front of us and we were then told that we had to stick back together again. This was very hard but we still won it even though we were missing one tiny little piece because Mrs Taylor let us of. Lunch then came into sight. This was my first day at hot dinners and it was very nice. A little while after this, we did some compass work on the adventure playground and trying to work out compass symbols. We didn’t do very well on this so we went back inside and talked about how a compass works. A little while later, we made our way back down to the hall and there were cones laid out on the floor with letters underneath them. Telling us what to do, we used compass directions to guide us round the hall and make a code with the letters.
Tuesday 31st January
On Tuesday morning we planned a route for a walk around our local area. We did this on the computers for the first half of the morning and a little bit after break. After we finished on the computers, Mrs Jephcott came to collect us and took onto the field to do a challenge. This challenge was trying to tie a knot around the tree without letting go of the piece of string. It was difficult but not quite as difficult as I thought it would be and that is only because we had help from Mrs Jephcott. The other group had help from Mrs Sweet as well so that makes it fair. After finishing this, we were lead onto the playground where we had a sheet of paper and whatever cone we went to we had to tick it off on our sheet. Then it was lunch. Lunch had just ended and we were told to keep our coats on as we were going on a 3 mile walk around our local area. It took us 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Wednesday 1st February
The first thing we did this morning was learn how to set a fire when you have no electricity around you. Then we sang camp fire songs and we also had hot chocolate with biscuits, it was very, very nice. Break time had just finished and we were then lead onto the field again where we tried to build a tent. The other groups failed but our class did it successfully. This was very fun and we thought that we wanted to do it again.
On Monday the 30th of January we did lots of things but my favourite thing was the one at the end. It was called the blind trail. You had to hold on to the string and if you let go you are out. It was so much fun and exciting. Then we went into some groups and one of them closed their eyes walking backwards and then we told them where to go. It was brilliant and it was so good and fun. I thought it would be boring but it was FUN!!!!
